Farmer’s Wife Sampler – the Four Square patterns

So the project moves along one block at a time. I am very interested in the geometric designs  and construction of each of these blocks. Even though some of the blocks appear to be complex, they are based on simple designs, like the four square block.

Each of these blocks are 6 inch block finished. I divided a six inch square into fourths. By drawing out the blocks in actual size, I can make the templates, adding the quarter inch seam allowance for each fabric piece.

One of the blocks still in a baggie in pieces needed to be divided into thirds so that the triangles would easily be drawn. Many people are using a method called paper piecing for these squares but I prefer hand piecing my blocks for this project.
